Dmytro entered the road sector by chance, but more than 15 years later, he is still here. Originally from Lviv Oblast, he has lived and worked in Poltava Oblast for more than a decade, overseeing key road projects across the region.
Today, under Dmytro’s leadership, the company carries out routine maintenance of state roads in Poltava Oblast and has recently taken on the maintenance of local roads as well.
Dmytro holds two university degrees. He graduated from the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management with a degree in International Business Management and from Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Shortly after graduating, Dmytro interviewed with the manager of a road project — and started work as an interpreter the very next day. That was how his career in the road sector began.
“We talked for ten minutes, and he said, ‘You start tomorrow,’” Dmytro recalls.
He started out on international projects — first on the M-06 Brody–Lviv section, followed by the Zhytomyr–Zviahel and Zhytomyr–Kyiv sections, and later the M-03, where he served as project manager. Since 2021, his work has focused on major rehabilitation, routine repairs and road maintenance.
When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, Dmytro joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in Donbas, in Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts — first as an anti-tank guided missile operator and later as a grenadier with the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade “Edelweiss.” He took part in fighting near Lysychansk and was wounded near Soledar. After being discharged from military service following his injuries, he returned to the road sector.
Today, Dmytro manages a team of around 100 people. He says one of the greatest challenges facing the road sector is the shortage of skilled workers. Despite this, the company continues to develop and gradually modernize its equipment and technical resources.
“Everyone is facing challenges today, not just our sector. There is a critical shortage of people, and we all understand the reasons behind it. Young people are also reluctant to enter the sector. Our equipment needs to be gradually renewed as well, and that is what we are doing,” Dmytro says.
One project Dmytro is particularly proud of is the road leading to the Memorial of Glory in Poltava. It was a relatively small section, but it was important to him that his team carry out the work. Another significant project is the M-22 approach to Poltava from the village of Rozsoshentsi, where the road had been in poor condition for decades. His team repaired around three kilometers of road, added new road markings and restored full access along the section.
“For me, this work is first and foremost about the people I work with, our shared responsibility for the result, and knowing that my work benefits the country,” Dmytro concludes.
