We are implementing new approaches to the construction of small checkpoints. Among them is the comprehensive modernization of the “Kelmentsi – Larga” international automobile checkpoint. It plays an important role in ensuring cross-border logistics between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.
The photo shows how the checkpoint looks now. Before the work began, the checkpoint lacked proper infrastructure: convenient access, sanitary conditions and inclusive solutions. Employees worked in metal trailers for years while travelers waited in lines without basic comfort.
“Kelmentsi” is one of nine small checkpoints that have been transferred to the Agency for Restoration. At these facilities we are implementing a new approach: not capital construction but mobile and standard modular solutions. Compared to the classical construction technology this means saving money at times. It also saves time because the tender was held only in July and we expect the work to be completed at the end of August.
In July 2025 the Agency for Restoration held a tender for the modernization of this point. We expect the work to be completed by the end of August.
The new technology is not only a significant savings but also a readiness for change. After Ukraine joins the EU, some of the checkpoints may become obsolete and the modules can be quickly re-equipped and transferred to the military, border guards, construction workers, etc.
At the “Kelmentsi – Larga” checkpoint we are updating:
▪️ road surface and sheds,
▪️ service premises,
▪️ sanitary infrastructure,
▪️ engineering networks,
▪️ autonomous power and water supply systems.
This is not a major overhaul but the changes are tangible. It is about speed, functionality and strategic feasibility. Because high-quality border infrastructure means strengthening logistics with partners and state security. In the context of a full-scale war the development and modernization of border infrastructure with neighboring allies and partners is of strategic importance.
