The comprehensive reconstruction of Yahidne in Chernihiv Oblast, a village severely damaged by russian aggression, is ongoing. As part of the experimental recovery project, we are restoring not only homes and the local road network, but also developing new social infrastructure — a memorial complex and a Community Development Centre.
The memorial complex will commemorate the tragic events of the Russian occupation in the spring of 2022. It will preserve the history of Yahidne, honour those who were killed and those who suffered, and ensure that future generations remember the crimes committed during the Russian aggression. Work currently includes clearing excavation areas for the shelter’s ventilation shafts, installing steel structures for the main building, and removing existing plaster.
At the same time, we are building a Community Development Centre in the heart of the village. It will provide a modern, multifunctional space for cultural, educational and community events, residents’ meetings and local initiatives. The building will also house a primary healthcare facility.
At the site, concrete is currently being cured following the casting of the monolithic slab, while formwork is being removed.
Rebuilding Yahidne is about more than constructing new buildings. It is about bringing life back to the village, preserving its memory, and creating opportunities for the community to grow and thrive.
