A new border crossing between Ukraine and Romania has opened, providing an additional road link to the EU. The Bila Tserkva–Sighetu Marmației crossing is the first new crossing to open on the Ukrainian-Romanian border in Zakarpattia region in 20 years.

Romania has built a new bridge across the Tysa River, while Ukraine has installed modular facilities for border and customs checks and provided upgraded access roads to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The opening ceremony was attended by Viktor Mykyta, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine; Mykola Kalashnyk, Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine; Ivan Lukeria, Deputy Head of the Agency for Restoration; Myroslav Biletskyi, Head of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration; and Ionel Scrioșteanu, State Secretary at Romania’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. Representatives of Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, border and customs authorities, and local communities also attended.

Expanding road links with the EU is essential to making cross-border travel faster and more convenient, improving logistics, particularly for humanitarian shipments, and creating new opportunities for Ukrainian exports.
Initially, the new crossing will be able to process up to 400 passenger cars a day. Further development will include facilities for trucks and buses. Once construction is complete, the crossing’s daily capacity is expected to double, accommodating up to 350–360 trucks and 50 buses.

The development and modernisation of border crossings and related infrastructure remain key priorities for the Agency for Restoration.

We are grateful to our Romanian partners for their support and effective cooperation, and to the Ministry for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine for coordinating these efforts.
