In the Volyn region, one of the key infrastructure projects has been completed – a major overhaul of the M-07 Kyiv – Kovel – Yahodyn road (towards Lublin) on the access routes to the “Yahodyn – Dorohusk” international vehicle checkpoint. Two sections with a total length of 1.9 km, have been restored.

The site was visited by Oleg Bardys, Head of the Department for the Development of Border Crossing Points, representatives of the Service for Restoration in Volyn region, local authorities, as well as border and customs services. Among the international partners were coordinators from the Centre for EU Transport Projects (CEUTP), representatives of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) and the Lublin Border Crossing Management Office.

The project’s implementation was made possible thanks to the support of the European Union – the renovation of the M-07 road section, which is part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), was carried out under the EU project “Vehicle Checkpoints” within the framework of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program. The European Union co-finances the project at 50% of its total cost.
EU support enabled the restoration of the M-07 road, reduced the negative impact of vehicle queues on the road, optimized and modernized traffic flows, and improved road safety on the access routes to the “Yahodyn – Dorohusk” checkpoint, the largest vehicle checkpoint on the border with Poland.
The major road renovation began in June this year. After preparatory work and milling of the worn asphalt concrete pavement, a durable multi-layer structure of the new road surface was laid. A comprehensive set of measures was implemented for traffic management and road safety. Accessibility requirements were also taken into account.
We sincerely thank the European Commission and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). We also thank the Centre for EU Transport Projects (CEUTP) for their assistance in coordination.
We continue to work on another project under the CEF program – the construction of a parking area with a total area of 13 hectares. It will provide additional safe parking for 600 trucks and will complement the recently completed project. This will help address truck queue issues along the roadside and provide comfortable conditions for drivers waiting to cross the border.
Such cooperation has been made possible thanks to the coordination and strategic communication between the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine and the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
