Major repairs underway on three bridges between Chernihiv and Slavutych

We are currently carrying out major repairs on three bridge crossings along the road connecting Chernihiv and Slavutych.

Work initially began in the fall of 2021, when temporary detours were constructed and the old bridge structures were dismantled. In January–February 2022 pile driving and testing were conducted. However, during the full-scale invasion, this part of Chernihiv region was occupied for a month, and the bridge construction was suspended.

In 2025 major repair works resumed. The contractor has since completed the installation of bridge supports and spans, reinforced the embankments with gabions, applied waterproofing to the structures and laid a leveling layer of asphalt concrete on the bridge decks. On the bridge approaches, curbs were installed, a gravel-sand mixture was laid and a leveling layer of asphalt concrete was applied.

Currently, the final asphalt layer is being laid on both the bridges and their approaches. Installation of expansion joints is the next step.

Completing these bridge repairs is essential to ensuring reliable road traffic between Chernihiv and Slavutych. The temporary detours were never intended for long-term use and now pose serious safety risks. For instance, in the summer of 2024, heavy rainfall caused a powerful stream of water to wash out and partially destroy one of the temporary detours. As a result, traffic was halted for an entire day while emergency repairs were carried out.
