August 24 is a celebration of the strength, freedom and resilience of our nation. Modern independence is rooted in a thousand-year legacy of statehood — from the Kyivan Rus of the 9th century, the emergence of the Ukrainian language, and the development of the alphabet.
Throughout the centuries, we have overcome difficult challenges and fought for our state and the Ukrainian nation. The war for independence continues to this day. Thanks to unity and the unbreakable spirit of our defenders, no one has succeeded in conquering the Ukrainian people.
Independence is not only our history, but also our responsibility. The Agency for Restoration works every day to rebuild the country — roads, bridges, hospitals, schools, and homes. We are restoring what the war has destroyed and laying the foundation for the future — in a sovereign, strong, and democratic country.
