Lyceum No. 25 in Zhytomyr was destroyed by a hostile missile strike on March 4, 2022. Since then, efforts have been ongoing to find partners and funding opportunities for the school’s reconstruction. The Government of Lithuania has stepped forward to assist in rebuilding the educational institution.
In July, during the Ukraine Recovery Conference, a memorandum was signed outlining Lithuania’s support for the restoration of Ukraine’s education sector. The next step was the signing of a trilateral memorandum between the Agency for Restoration, Zhytomyr City Council, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

As part of the first phase, the technical construction project will be developed with funding from Lithuanian partners. The Agency for Restoration will provide technical expertise, while project implementation will be coordinated by CPVA — the Central Project Management Agency, which recently opened a branch office in Kyiv.

A new, multifunctional, future-ready school will be built on the site of the destroyed lyceum — a safe, modern and inclusive educational space, that meets the needs of all participants in the learning process.
“I would like to thank everyone involved: the Ministry of Education, the Zhytomyr City Council, and a special thank you to our friends and reliable partners — the Republic of Lithuania. This is a true example of support and trust,” said Serhii Sukhomlyn.
